Prioritise payments, permissions and data integrity without ignoring the rest of the experience.
Name the consequences
List what could go wrong and who would be affected. A cosmetic spacing issue and unauthorised record access have different consequences. Consider impact, likelihood and how easily failure would be detected. Use this discussion to prioritise testing rather than giving every screen the same amount of attention because it occupies the same space in a specification.
Turn risks into scenarios
For payments, test repeated clicks and uncertain confirmation. For permissions, attempt access through direct requests as well as the interface. For migration, compare relationships and totals. Concrete scenarios make the plan assessable. They also expose requirements the team has not yet defined, such as who resolves a partially completed operation.
Combine testing methods
Automated checks are useful for repeatable expectations. Exploratory testing can reveal confusing interactions and unexpected combinations. Review accessibility and real-device behaviour where relevant. Avoid choosing one method as a substitute for all others. The evidence should match the risk, not the preferred tool of the person writing the test plan.

Make release decisions explicit
Record unresolved defects, their impact and any agreed workaround. Name the person accepting a residual risk. Passing tests does not prove the product has no defects. It provides evidence about the scenarios exercised, which should help the team decide whether the remaining uncertainty is acceptable for the proposed release.

- List business consequences
- Test failure paths
- Record release decisions
Bring one real, anonymised example to the discussion. Work through the choices above with the person responsible for the outcome, record the unresolved questions and agree who will investigate them.
