03 / UNDERSTAND THE MODEL

How the numbers work.

  1. Retained sales = orders × order value × (1 − refund percentage). Costs include product cost and fulfilment for every order, fees on original sales, return handling, marketing and fixed costs.
  2. Monthly operating contribution = retained sales − modelled costs. Annualised contribution = monthly contribution × 12. Margin uses retained sales as denominator.

All money values are GBP. Keep VAT treatment consistent across inputs. Outputs are indicative, not a quote or a guarantee. Model reviewed October 2026.

How reliable is this estimate?

A conservative scenario: product costs and payment fees are not recovered on refunded orders. This is not accounting profit; excludes tax, financing and inventory movements. Use figures consistently net of VAT where appropriate.

Does requesting a report subscribe me to marketing?

No. This is a transactional report request. It does not subscribe you to marketing.
